The Social Network - Story Behind Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg
The Story Behind "The Social Network"
One of our society's most controversial and highly debated movies of all time is "The Social Network", which debuted in theatres last year. It is the "true" story of how Facebook rose to fame and how Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Facebook) went on to be one of our nation's wealthiest individuals.
Zuckerberg studied at Harvard University, and it was here that he developed a format and code for a social media program that would ultimately become the standard for the entire world of social networking. There is only one problem with all of that. That is not the entire story, and the movie goes the extra mile to show us what we didn't know about behind the scenes.
The Movie: The Social Network is based on "The Accidental Billionaires", a book by Ben Mezrich. The movie itself came out on October, 1st, 2010. The movie portrays Zuckerberg as a typical punk kid who achieved riches, and used any means necessary to get the glory he currently has. The movie also gives us a glimpse into the fact that Zuckerberg wasn't the only one who was a part of the creation of Facebook.
Social Networking: The movie itself relays the stories of Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss, Sean Parker, and Eduard Saverin. Facebook first originated as a social networking site only for Harvard U. students, and it was called HarvardConnect.com. Saverin also provided a measure of financial backing for the project, and still possesses 5% ownership in Facebook. The movie portrays the Winklevoss twins as the people who were scammed out of money. Their claim is that it was them who gave the idea for social networking to Zuckerberg. Sean Parker actually founded Napster, and has gone on to be a paid consultant to Facebook.
How long is the movie the social network? The movie "The Social Network" is 121 mins.
